"Expect 145 sites across all the states to receive vaccine on Monday, another 425 sites on Tuesday. and the final 66 sites on Wednesday, which will complete the initial delivery of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine," he said.

The first push will vaccinate about three million people.

Federal health authorities have recommended that health care workers and nursing home residents be at the front of the road , but the decisions are going to be left to states.

The US became the sixth country to green light the Pfizer vaccine on Friday night.

"The good old days are over... the cold war hawks in the US have been in a highly mobilised state for several years, and they will not disappear overnight," Zheng said in an interview on the sidelines of the Understanding China Conference in Guangzhou recently.

Zheng, who attended a symposium hosted by President Xi Jinping in August to offer advice on China's long-term strategy, said there was now a bipartisan consensus within the US on containing China.

Zheng said President-elect Joe Biden might make the most of the public resentment towards China after he entered the White House. "American society is torn apart. i don't think Biden can do anything about it," Zheng said.

"He is certainly a very weak President, if he can't sort out domestic issues, then he will do something on the diplomatic front, do something against China. If we say Trump is not interested in promoting democracy and freedom, Biden is. (President Donald) Trump is not interested in war... but a Democratic President could start wars."

The action comes days after Pfizer Inc and its German partner BioNTech announced that its vaccine appears 95 per cent effective at preventing mild to severe COVID-19 disease in a large, ongoing study.

The companies said that protection plus a good safety record means the vaccine should qualify for emergency use authorization, something the Food and Drug Administration can grant before the ultimate testing is fully complete.

In addition to Friday's FDA submission, they have already started "rolling" applications in Europe and therefore the UK and intend to submit similar information soon.

The U.S. government on Wednesday said it'll start distributing a COVID-19 vaccine within one day of regulatory authorization because it plans for the possibility that a limited number of vaccine doses could also be available at the end of the year.

Officials from the Department of Health and Human Services and therefore the Department of Defense on Wednesday held a call with reporters then released documents on the distribution plans that it's sending to the states and local public health officials.

“Our goal at Operation Warp Speed, is that 24 hours after (regulatory authorization) is issued, we have vaccine moving to administration sites,” one of the officials said.

ON-SITE VACCINATIONS

Pharmacies and hospitals are the first vaccination points, and therefore the CDC document said the agency is functioning directly with pharmacies to develop on-site vaccination in long-term care facilities.
