Decision Desk HQ declares Joe Biden as next US president

World News/ US Elections 2020: Democratic candidate Joe Biden moved closer to winning the White House on Friday as he expanded his lead over President Donald Trump in battleground states, yet television networks and news outlets have stayed away from declaring him the victor as officials continued to count votes in a few states where race is exceptionally close.

The Decision Desk HQ has become the first outlet to call the election in favour of Joe Biden, naming him the 46th President of the United States.

"Decision Desk HQ projects that @JoeBiden has won Pennsylvania and its 20 electoral college votes for a total of 273. Joe Biden has been elected the 46th President of the United States of America. Race called at 11-06 08:50 AM EST" said the tweet.

Decision Desk HQ made the call on Twitter after a batch of ballots came in from Philadelphia that put Biden in the lead by 5,500 votes in Pennsylvania.

With more than 100,000 ballots still left to be counted in the state, and with those ballots tilting very heavily toward Biden, there is no realistic path for Donald Trump to win the state. And yet, all the networks have hesitated to say unequivocally that Joe Biden will be the next president.

However, the Decision Desk HQ has not called either Georgia or Arizona — two other states where Biden leads. Decision Desk HQ was launched by Brandon Finnigan in 2014 and he is reported to have conservative leanings.

Other media outlets like Associated Press and Edison Research are also yet to call out the elections.

Here is how different desks are projecting the numbers:

The New York Times projection

The New York Times is taking into account a number of factors before declaring a winner, including race calls made by The Associated Press and Edison Research.

According to the NYT, Joe Biden stood on the cusp of the presidency on Friday, seizing leads over President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania and Georgia and building on his lead in Nevada as he drew ever closer to securing the 270 electoral votes needed to lay claim to the White House.

According to the NYT tracker, Biden had a lead of 253 while Trump was at 214.

The NYT said that in Pennsylvania, the remaining mail ballots are expected to favor Democrats while in Georgia, A small number of absentee, provisional and overseas military ballots remain uncounted.

AP projection

According to the projections from AP, Biden has a lead of 264 electoral votes while Trump is at 214.

In Pennsylvania, Biden has a lead of 49.64% votes while Trump is at 49.21%.

US President Donald Trump and First Lady tested Positive for Covid-19

The shock development disrupts Donald Trump’s scheduled public appearances within the crucial final weeks of the election campaign.

World News: U.S. President Donald Trump said late on Thursday that he and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for Covid-19 and are quarantined after a top aide tested positive for coronavirus, in a very shock development that disrupts his scheduled public appearances within the crucial final weeks of the election campaign.

Tags: World News,Latest News,Covid-19,

Trump’s positive test comes just hours after the White House announced that senior aide Hope Hicks decreased with the virus after traveling with the president several times this week. Trump was last seen by reporters returning to the White House on Thursday evening and looked to be in good health.

Trump is 74 years old, putting him at higher risk of great complications from a virus that has now killed over 200,000 people nationwide. "Tonight, @FLOTUS and i tested positive for COVID-19. we will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. we will get through this TOGETHER!" Trump tweeted.

Trump announced late Thursday that he and first lady Melania Trump were beginning a “quarantine process” after Hicks decreased with the virus, though it wasn’t clear what that entailed. It can take days for an infection to be detectable by a test.

The diagnosis marks a significant blow for a president who has been trying desperately to convince the American public that the worst of the pandemic is behind them even as cases continue to rise with less than four months before election day. And it stands because the most serious known public health scare encountered by any sitting American president in recent history.

Symptoms of COVID-19 can include fever, cough and breathing trouble. most of the people develop only mild symptoms. But some people, usually those with other medical complications, develop more severe symptoms, including pneumonia, which can be fatal.

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday, Trump said he was awaiting results of a COVID-19 test. “Whether we quarantine or whether we have it, I don’t know,” he said, adding that first lady Melania Trump was also awaiting results.

Hicks traveled with the president multiple times this week, including aboard Marine One, the presidential helicopter, and on Air Force One to a rally in Minnesota on Wednesday, and aboard Air Force One to Tuesday night’s first presidential debate in Cleveland.

Trump had consistently played down concerns about being personally susceptible to contracting COVID-19, even after White House staff and allies were exposed and sickened. “I felt no vulnerability whatsoever,” he said told reporters back in May.

He has instead encouraged governors to reopen their states and tried to focus the nation’s attention on efforts to revive the economy — not a growing death toll — as he seeks another four-year term.

Some studies suggest COVID-19 patients who are obese could also be at higher risk of being seriously sickened by the virus, although it’s unclear whether that’s because they're more likely to possess other health conditions like heart disease or diabetes. In his 2019 physical, Trump met the technical threshold for obesity.

The news was bound to rattle an already shaken nation still grappling with how to safely reopen while avoiding further spikes. The White House has access to near-unlimited resources, including a constant supply of quick-result tests, and still failed to keep the president safe, raising questions on how the rest of the country are going to be ready to protect its workers, students and the public as businesses and schools reopen.

Trump, the vice president and other senior staff have been tested for COVID-19 daily since two people that work on the White House complex tested positive in early May, prompting the White House to step up precautions. Everyone who comes into contact with the president also receives a quick-result test.

Tags: World News,Latest News,Covid-19,

Yet since the early days of the pandemic, experts have questioned the health and safety protocols at the White House and asked why more wasn’t being done to protect the commander in chief. Trump continued to shake hands with visitors long after public health officials were warning against it and he initially resisted being tested. He has been reluctant to practice his own administration’s social distancing guidelines for fear of looking weak, including refusing under almost all circumstances to wear a mask publicly .

Trump isn't the only major world leader known to have contracted the virus. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spent a week in the hospital, including three nights in intensive care, where he was given oxygen and watched round the clock by medical workers. German Chancellor Angela Merkel self-isolated after a doctor who gave her a vaccination tested positive for the virus, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau worked from home after his wife fell ill.

The White House got its first COVID-19 scare in early March when a minimum of three people that later tested positive came in close proximity to the president at his private Florida club. That included members of the Brazilian president’s delegation, including the Brazilian chargé d’affaires, who sat at Trump’s dining table .

Tags: World News,Latest News,Covid-19,

In mid-March, as the virus continued to spread across the country, the White House began taking the temperature of everyone entering the White House complex, and in April, it began administering rapid COVID-19 tests to all those in close proximity to the president, with staffers being tested about once a week. The frequent tests gave some staff the false impression the complex was safe from the virus, and few, as a result, followed recommended safety protocols, including wearing masks. but then the bubble broke.

On May 7, the White House announced that a member of the military serving together of the president’s personal valets tested positive for the virus, followed a day later by a positive diagnosis for vice president Mike Pence’s press secretary.

Even then, Trump said he was “not worried” about the virus spreading in the White House. But officials again stepped up safety protocols for the complex, directing everyone entering the West Wing to wear a mask.

Tags: World News,Latest News,Covid-19,

“I think it’s very well contained, actually,” Trump told reporters on May 11. But by June, concerns at the White House had dissipated once again, with few staffers bothering with masks even as more and more people tested positive for the virus, including campaign staffers preparing for a Tulsa rally and United States Secret Service agents.

On July 3rd, Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is dating Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., tested positive in South Dakota before an Independence Day fireworks show at mount rushmore. Guilfoyle, a former Fox News personality who works for Trump’s campaign, had not flown on Air Force One and had not been in direct contact with the president, though she had had contact with numerous top GOP officials. In July, Trump's national security adviser, Robert O’Brien, tested positive.

While there's currently no evidence that Trump is seriously ill, the positive test also raises questions on what would happen if he were to become incapacitated due to illness. The Constitution’s 25th Amendment spells out the procedures under which a president can declare themselves “unable to discharge the powers and duties” of the presidency. If he were to make that decision , Trump would transmit a written note to the Senate president pro tempore, Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. Pence would serve as acting president until Trump transmitted “a written declaration to the contrary.”

The vice president and a majority of either the cabinet or another body established by law, can also declare the president unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, in which case Pence would “immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President” until Trump could provide a written declaration to the contrary.

Human rights lawyers sue Trump administration over the 'unconstitutional' ICC sanctions

World News:
Human rights lawyers launched a legal challenge on Thursday to U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order imposing economic sanctions on employees of the world’s permanent war crimes tribunal, arguing it breaches the U.S. constitution.

A filing lodged at a district court in new york by the open society Justice Initiative, a public interest law centre that specialises in war crimes cases, names Trump, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and 7 other members of his administration.

Tags: World News, Latest News,

It argues that the executive order violates constitutional rights, including freedom of speech, and prevents the plaintiffs from carrying out work in support of international justice.

“By issuing this outrageous order, the Trump administration has betrayed Washington’s long-standing support for international justice, snubbed its allies, and violated the U.S. constitution,” open society Justice Initiative executive James Goldston said during a statement.

“We are going to court to end this reckless assault on a judicial institution and the victims it serves.”

Trump authorised U.S. economic and travel sanctions against employees of the Hague-based International criminal court and anyone supporting its work on June 12, citing their involvement in an investigation into whether American forces committed war crimes in Afghanistan.

On Sept. 2, Pompeo said ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda had been blacklisted.

The ICC has said the measures are an attack on the court, the system of international criminal justice and therefore the rule of law more generally.

Tags: World News,Latest News,

European Union countries and rights groups have rejected the U.S. sanctions as detrimental to efforts to secure international justice for war crimes.

Measures include freezing the U.S. assets of those who help the ICC investigate or prosecute americans without U.S. consent, and barring them and their families from the u. s..

The main target of the move is Bensouda, who was granted approval in March to investigate possible crimes committed in Afghanistan between 2003 and 2014.

These include alleged mass killings of civilians by the Taliban also because the alleged torture of prisoners by Afghan authorities and, to a lesser extent, by U.S. forces and also the CIA.

Announcing the executive order in June, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described the ICC, established in 2002 by the international community to prosecute war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity, as a “kangaroo court”.

Trump administration officials also said it threatened to infringe on U.S. national sovereignty and accused Russia of manipulating it to serve Moscow’s ends.

Lionel Messi tells Barcelona he wants to leave

Lionel Messi has informed Barcelona that he wants to leave the club, according to several breaking reports.

Following Barca's 8-2 humiliation against Bayern Munich, there have been suggestions that the argentine wanted to go away Camp Now.

And now, that has apparently been confirmed by the argentine.

Several high-profile outlets and journalists confirmed the maximum amount on Tuesday evening.

Journalist Alfredo Martinex tweeted: "Today is a very sad day for Barça fans. Leo Messi announces that he does not want to continue at Barcelona. After 29 years and 17 in the professional squad, the greatest player in history wants to go, and Bartomeu stays. The president who has not been able to retain him cannot continue."

He later added: "Messi will no longer attend testing this weekend or training. The decision is final."

That claim is supported by Marca, who write: "Leo Messi wants to leave Fútbol Club Barcelona. Difficult to write this sentence without exclamations.

"The player has sent a burofax to the club expressing his desire to execute the clause provided in his contract by which he can unilaterally leave the club at the end of each season.

"In principle, that clause ended before June 10, but the atypical of this exercise due to the coronavirus opens the way to request now to be released. it is considered a first step to open a negotiation for an exit, based on the fact that its clause is 700 million euros."

The club will no doubt fight the very fact Messi can trigger the clause that was due to expire on June 10 and that we haven't heard the end of this.

One thing is needless to say , Messi wants to go away the club he's been at for quite 29 years.

The biggest transfer story within the history of football is well underway.

73 days to COVID-19 vaccine; Indians to get free shots

India's first Covid vaccine-Serum Institute's 'Covishield'- are going to be commercialised in 73 days. Indians are going to be immunised free under the National Immunisation Programme (NIP) as is that the case with all other vaccines under the programme.

"The government has given us a 'special manufacturing priority license' and fast-tracked the trial protocol processes to get the trials completed in 58 days. By this, the first dosing is happening from today in the final phase (Phase III) and the second dosing will happen after 29 days. the final trial data will be out in another 15 days from the second dosing. By that time, we are planning to commercialise Covishield," a Serum Institute of India (SII) top official exclusively revealed.

Earlier, the third phase trials were expected to require a minimum 7-8 months.

The trial among 1600 volunteers at 17 centres, each with about 100 volunteers, started on Aug 22.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has also said that one among our COVID-19 vaccine candidates is within the third phase of the clinical test . "We are very confident that a vaccine will be developed by end of this year," he said.

The source said the vaccine will belong to Serum Institute, because the company has entered into an exclusive agreement with Astra Zeneca to shop for rights and pay a royalty fee for exclusively selling it in India and 92 other countries. The central government has already indicated to SII that it'll directly procure the vaccines and is getting to immunise Indians for free of charge . Centre has sought 68 crore doses for 130 crore Indian citizens from Serum Institute by June, next year.

For the rest, it's likely to put orders with 'Covaxine' being developed by ICMR and Bharat Biotech and Zydus Cadila's 'ZyCoV-D' if their trials proceed successfully.

Bharat Biotech is yet to point when it might start and finish the trials, though Bharat Biotech's CMD Krishna Ella had said that to make sure safety and efficacy it might not expedite the vaccine with short-cuts.

Serum is beginning to manufacture 6 crore doses per month which can be increased to 10 crore per month by April, 2021. this is often being done by re-engineering its vaccine manufacturing lines that it's spent nearly Rs 200 crore. SII, the most important vaccine maker within the world, features a capacity to form 150 crore doses a year.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has agreed to fund Serum with about $150 million (nearly Rs 1125 crore) to supply and provide around 10 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine for supply to low income countries. which will help SII to scale back the worth to about Rs 250 per dose from over Rs 1,000 per dose, the source said.

The cracks in the earth's magnetic field have increased, broken into two pieces are in danger, said NASA

The cracks in the earth's magnetic field have become even larger. A crack has broken into two pieces. As a result, terrestrial civilizations in the area will have to deal with horrific solar particles, solar radiation, and cosmic rays.

The US space agency NASA has given this news in a recent report. As a result, the International Space Station orbiting through the area could be damaged by critical equipment of various artificial satellites. Telecommunication, electricity connection and navigation system in the area may also be disrupted.

This magnetic field of the Earth surrounds our bluish planet and extends for millions of kilometers in space. Another name for it is 'Geomagnetic Field'. It is this magnetic field that saves us every moment from the scorching solar radiation and the toxic cosmic rays. When solar radiation and cosmic rays arrive, it is this magnetic field of the earth that pushes it away, as far as possible.

From the seventies of the last century, the earth's magnetic field began to weaken. That's when a huge crack appeared in this magnetic field. Its name is 'South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA)'. This fissure exists in the Earth's magnetic field over South America and the South Atlantic Ocean.

According to a recent NASA report, the Earth's magnetic field has weakened over the past 50 years. The cracks in the earth's magnetic field over South America and the South Atlantic Ocean have become so large in size that they have even broken in two. Made of two large cracks.

NASA observed, "The cracks in the Earth's magnetic field are gradually increasing towards the west. And the magnetic field in that area is getting weaker and weaker. ”

As a result, NASA has warned that the area is in danger in the coming days. For those who live in the area, the natural magnetic 'shield' to prevent the invasion of solar particles, solar radiation and cosmic rays has become weak enough. As a result, the International Space Station orbiting the Earth through that area could suffer catastrophic damage to vital parts of artificial satellites due to solar radiation and cosmic rays.

Earlier in May, the European Space Agency (ESA) reported that the Earth's magnetic field had weakened by 9 percent in the last 200 years. And in the area of the magnetic field where the crack has grown in size and broken into two pieces, the magnetic field has weakened by 8% in the last 50 years.

Scientists say that the cause of this increase in the Earth's magnetic field is geo-natural. These cracks have formed and are growing because the molten lava flow and the magnetic axis are tilted a little more deep inside the earth. The Earth's magnetic field is also increasing because the North and South Poles of the Earth are not properly north and south respectively.
