IPL 2020: Defending champions Mumbai Indians registered their second win in a row and moved to the top of IPL 2020 Points Table, after beating SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 34 runs in a high-scoring contest at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Chasing 209 to win, David Warner and Jonny Bairstow got their side off to a decent start, adding 34 runs in first four overs. Trent Boult broke the partnership sending Bairstow back to the pavillion within the fifth over. Warner and Manish Pandey batted with intent and didn't allow the desired run-rate to get out of their reach. However, just when the game was looking in the balance, James Pattison got eliminate Manish Pandey in the 10th over to derail their chase. From there on, Warner fought as a lone warrior as none of the SRH batsmen gave him enough support from the other end. Warner, the most successful overseas batsman in IPL history, completed his first half-century of the season, scoring 60 off 44 balls, but couldn't get his side across the finishing line .

With three wins from five games, Mumbai are level on points with Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who have played one match less. Mumbai's superior net run-rate has helped them rise to the top of the points table, at least for a day, as RCB face Delhi on Tuesday.

Earlier, Quinton de Kock scored his first fifty of the season as Mumbai Indians posted a formidable 208/5 in 20 overs. De Kock, struggling for form before this game, announced his arrival with a well-crafted 67 off 39 balls, providing a solid platform for the pinch hitters like Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard. After deciding to bat, Mumbai Indians suffered a major blow as they lost their skipper Rohit Sharma cheaply within the first over. Rohit started brilliantly pulling Sandeep Sharma over midwicket for a six but fell on the very next delivery after he tried to fetch a wide delivery.

After his departure, De Kock combined with Suryakumar Yadav (27 off 18 balls) and batted sensibly and added 42 runs for the second wicket, without taking undue risks. Siddarth Kaul struck on the penultimate delivery of the Powerplay to break the partnership. Ishan Kishan walked out to bat at No. 4 and laid the strong foundation batting alongside South Africa's limited-over skipper. Carrying on along with his good form, Ishan Kishan scored 31 off 23 balls, with the help of 1 four and two maximums. SRH bowlers pulled things back, removing both of them in quick succession. De Kock skied one up high within the air and Rashid Khan took an excellent catch off his his own bowling, while Manish Pandey pulled off a flying catch near the ropes to finish Ishan's innings. it had been a tailor-made condition for Mumbai Indians' big hitters Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard and they didn't disappoint, hitting deliveries to all parts of the ground. Hardik got out on the final over after a 19-ball 28 and was replaced by his elder brother Krunal Pandya at the crease. With just four deliveries left, Krunal went all guns blazing and smashed 20 off just four balls to take Mumbai Indians total past 200-run mark.

While captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with the bat, Jasprit Bumrah once more proved why he's one among the best fast bowlers in the world at the moment. Invited to bat first, Mumbai Indians got off to a poor start losing opener Quinton de Kock on a duck before Suryakumar Yadav was run-out on 10 off 7 balls. Rohit led the charge from one end and found support from Ishan Kishan (28) as they added 62 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Rohit went on to slam a superb knock of 70 runs off 45 balls laced with 8 fours and 3 sixes. in the process, he scripted history by becoming only the third batsman to get 5,000 runs in the history of IPL as he joined Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli in an elite list. Kohli tops the all-time run-getters list with 5430 runs in 180 matches, while Rohit now has 5068 runs in 192 games.

Rohit has been in sublime form this season and has already scored two half-centuries in the first four games for his side. While Rohit played a captain's knock, Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya hammered two sensational cameos towards the end to power Mumbai Indians to a powerful total of 191 runs on the board. While Pollard hammered 47 off 20 balls with the help of 4 sixes, Pandya slammed 3 boundaries and a couple of sixes in his quickfire 11-ball 30. The duo took the KXIP bowlers apart as they made a mockery of the opposition bowling attack.

In reply, Kings XI Punjab never looked settled in the run chase as they succumbed to another defeat. KXIP have now lost back-to-back games and have managed just one win in their first four games of the season. While Rahul struggled to get going in his 19-ball 17, his opening partner Mayank Agarwal scored 25 off 18 balls. The duo added 38 runs for the first wicket before the middle-order crumbled under pressure.

The likes of Karun Nair (0), Glenn Maxwell (11), James Neesham (7) and Sarfaraz Khan (7) all disappointed with the bat as KXIP were restricted on 143/7 despite playing 8 batsmen within the XI. Nicholas Pooran top-scored with a 27-ball 44 while Krishnappa Gowtham showed some fight towards the end with a 13-ball 22 but their efforts weren't enough to get KXIp over the line in a very pressure chase.

Jasprit Bumrah was yet again exceptional for Mumbai Indians as he returned with figures of 2/18 in his 4 overs, bowling at an impressive economy of 4.50. Rahul Chahar also impressed with 2 for 26 off his 4 overs. it had been a complete bowling effort from Mumbai Indians with all five bowlers on the mark and getting a wicket each for their efforts.

Rohit Sharma was the talisman for Mumbai Indians (MI), leading them to a 49-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match, at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi . After winning the man of the match award, the MI captain said, "It was all about how we executed our plans today, we were in good positions and it was all about being ruthless". He went on to add that the wicket was good, and his team took advantage of it. Speaking about his batting display, he revealed that he had been practicing his pull shots lately.

Scoring 80 off 54 deliveries, Rohit also said that he wanted to spend a while within the middle overs, which he wasn't ready to neutralize the defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). "Was looking to spend some time in the middle; it didn't come out well in the first innings but glad to have done it tonight," quipped Rohit.

Rohit revealed that MI had planned a pace attack for the Wankhede Stadium, but COVID-19 spoiled their plans. "We never knew that the IPL would happen in the UAE so we wanted a pace attack that was strong for the Wankhede", he said. He praised Trent Boult and James Pattinson for performing well, although they joined the team late.

Speaking about his dismissal, he revealed that he was exhausted. "It takes a lot out of you to play in these conditions. Maybe i was a bit tired in the end and it was a lesson for us that one set batsmen needs to bat deep till the end," he stated. Meanwhile, KKR captain Dinesh Karthik felt that his team must improve in all areas. "I think we had areas to do well in bat and ball. i think it was a pretty rusty day to be honest," he said.

Karthik also feels his side must get accustomed the conditions in United Arab Emirates (UAE). MI face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their next match on September 28. Meanwhile, KKR face SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on September 26.

IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians, KKR upset, will stay locked in resort rooms for 7 extra days

The Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) teams Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders are upset.

Reason, they still need to follow quarantine norms for another week before they will resume practice sessions just like the other teams.

Both Mumbai Indians & KKR are based in Abu Dhabi . consistent with the Covid-19 norms of the emirate of Abu Dhabi , it's mandatory to finish 14 days quarantine before anyone is allowed to maneuver outside.

In comparison 6 teams staying in Dubai are ready to start out practice. Dubai only follows 7 days mandatory quarantine period.

These different sets of quarantine rules within the two emirates has pegged the franchises plans by every week .

“We have requested BCCI to intervene. We were told we have to follow 7 days quarantine period but now it has come to our knowledge that as per the local norms we will be in 14 days quarantine”, said member of the support staff attached with the Mumbai Indians team.

IPL 2020 Teams arrival date in UAE

Day Date Team
Thursday 20-Aug KKR RR KXIP
Friday 21-Aug MI CSK RCB
Sunday 23-Aug DC SRH

KKR was the primary team to succeed in UAE on 20th Aug, while Mumbai Indians reached Abu Dhabi on 21st Aug. At an equivalent time other 6 teams reached Dubai and that they have started reaching ICC Academy for practice sessions, but both Rohit Sharma’s MI and Dinesh Karthik’s will stay within the hotels for an additional week.
The different Covid-19 norms within the two Emirates aren't only upsetting the plans of Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians but even BCCI is in fix and is yet to release the schedule for the event.
The IPL is simply 20 days away and therefore the BCCI has still not finalized the schedule for the IPL that starts form September 19.

The reason is that the same – Dubai & Abu Dhabi both have separate protocols associated with Covid-19. There are travel restrictions also between the 2 cities. While entering Abu Dhabi , one has got to undergo mandatory rapid tests. Only after a negative test one can cross the border.

Such strict procedures cannot work for the teams on a match-day. that's the rationale BCCI is yet to declare the schedule for the IPL 2020

It has learnt from the sources, now to beat the local protocols – BCCI team in UAE is deliberating with the Emirates Cricket Board to divide the IPL 2020 into two separate legs in order that traveling between the cities are often minimized.

At this stage out of total 56 Group Games in IPL 2020 –
– 21 are going to be played in Dubai
– 21 in Abu Dhabi
– 14 in Sharjah

Currently there are not any restrictions to visit Sharjah from Dubai. So BCCI may plan to play the whole first leg of IPL 2020 in Dubai & Sharjah.

The second leg may comprise of games only in AbuDhabi which is 130 kms from Dubai.

For the play-offs & finals teams can again return to Dubai.

The final decision during this regard are going to be taken with-in next 48 hours as IPL GC Chairman Brijesh Patel and Hemang Amin is thanks to meet various officials in UAE government. Post these meetings on Thursday, final course of action are going to be decided and IPL 2020 schedules are going to be released.
