Chinese man who sold kidney to buy iPhone now struggling for life

As he was very keen on owning Apple devices, he reverted to a message from a black market organ peddler on an online chatroom.

World News: After Apple announced its latest iPhone series in October, the net was flooded with memes and jokes. Among these memes, the meme that probably did rounds the most was which talked about selling your kidney to be ready to purchase an iPhone.

The kidney meme, however, is not new and went onto become an appalling reality for 25-year-old Chinese man Wang Shangkun. In 2011, the then 17-year old Shangkun, who comes from China's Anhui province, peddled his kidneys in exchange of $3,273 to buy an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4. At the time, Shangkun was quoted as saying, "Why do i need two kidneys? One is enough."

As he was very keen on owning Apple devices, he reverted to a message from a black market organ peddler on an online chatroom. in this chat, he told that he could earn over $3,000 by selling the organ.

Soon after this conversation, the then 17-year old Wang underwent an illegal surgery within the hunan province to remove his right kidney.

Within a couple of months, he developed an infection within the remaining kidney due to unhygienic operation location and therefore the lack of post-operative care, according to a Vice report. His condition deteriorated and he is now bedridden because of a renal deficiency and requires regular dialysis.

His mother grew suspicious when she saw him enter the house with expensive Apple devices and made him confess about the surgery. Following this, nine people were booked under charges of intentional injury and organ trading.

The 8th-generation of iPad starts at $329 and can be available within the US starting this week. Besides supporting Apple Pencil, the tablet comes powered by A12 Bionic chipset.

Coming in Silver, Space Gray and Gold, the tablet still has the touchID button below the screen and comes in 32GB or 128GB storage variants.


There's a 10.2-inch display, 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.2-megapixel front camera and stereo speakers.

Apple also introduced the Apple One subscription service that bundles iCloud, Apple Music, TV+, Arcade, News+ and Fitness+ for individual and relations . additionally , the firm introduced the Fitness+ service that costs $9.99 and $79.99 for monthly and annual subscription. Watch SE starts at $279 while the Watch Series 6 starts at $399.

Apple Inc. has developed masks that the company is starting to distribute to corporate and retail employees to limit the spread of Covid-19.


The Apple mask is that the first created in-house by the Cupertino, California-technology giant for its staff. The other, called ClearMask, was sourced elsewhere. Apple previously made a special face shield for medical workers and distributed many other masks across the health-care sector.

Apple told staff that the mask was developed by the Engineering and Industrial Design teams, an equivalent groups that employment on devices like the iPhone and iPad.It's made from three layers to filter incoming and outgoing particles. It are often washed and reused as many as five times, the corporate told employees.
