Special News: Chhath Mahaparva has started with Nahay Khay and this festival will be celebrated with pomp for four days. On the first day of Chhath, Nahay Khay, on the second day Kharna, on the third day Arghya is offered to the Sun in the evening and on the fourth day Arghya is offered to the rising Sun. Along with the sun, Chhathi Maiya is also worshiped with dedication and devotion,  on all four days of this worship. It is believed that on the second day of Chhath i.e. Kharna, Chhathi Maiya comes from house to house and gives her auspicious blessings.Chhathi Maiya worshiped on the sixth day of Deepawali. It is because of Chhathi Maiya that this festival is named Chhath. According to religious beliefs, Chhath Maiya is worshiped on the second day of Chhath Puja and wishes for progeny and longevity. Know who is Chhathi Maiya 

According to mythological texts, the Chhathi Maiya that occurs during Chhath Puja is the Manas daughter of Lord Brahma and the sister of Suryadev. Chhath Puja is organized to please these Maiya. According to the Puranas, when Brahma was creating the universe, he had divided himself into two parts. The right side of Brahma appeared as Purusha and the left as Prakriti. Prakriti became the presiding deity of the universe, who was known as Prakriti Devi.Prakriti Devi had divided herself into six parts and this sixth part is known as Mother Goddess or Devasena. Due to being the sixth part of nature, he also got a name Shashthi, which is known as Chhathi Maiya. The mother who is worshiped on the sixth day after the birth of the child, is the same Shashti Devi. Worshiping Shashti Devi, the child gets the blessings of health and success.

This is how Chhath Puja started

According to the Puranas, Manu's son Priyamvad had no children for a long time, due to which he started getting very upset. Then Maharishi Kashyap asked King Priyamvad and his wife Malini to perform a yagya ritual in order to have children. On the orders of Maharishi Kashyap, King Priyamvad got a yajna performed and asked Queen Malini to eat the food made for the sacrifice of the yagya, as a result of which Queen Malini became pregnant.But unfortunately their child died in the womb. Due to which the king and his subjects were very sad. Then the king saw a goddess sitting on a shining stone coming down from the sky.

Chhathi Maiya gives children to the childless

The king asked the introduction of the goddess. Then the goddess said that O king, I am the Manas daughter of Brahmaji, and I also protect all the children. With my blessings, childless women get children. You worship me and inspire others to worship me too. Then the king performed fast-worship of Shashti Devi, due to which he got  son.The day when King Priyamvad observed this fast, it was the Shashthi of Kartik month. Since then, the tradition of the festival of Chhath started and to protect the children, Chhath Maiya's fast was started.
